My Mini Casa
When people hear that I sell shipping containers I am usually met with blank stares or confused expressions. People don’t generally think of shipping containers as something of interest. However, a brief dig into Hollywood reveals that shipping containers are featured in many films and TV shows! Usually a good set for an intense fight scene in the CW TV show “Arrow” or even a good place for a dance breakdown like in “Step Up Revolution.” Here are three of my favorites – I can hardly CONTAIN myself!
- IRON MAN 3
The final battle scene in the third installment of Marvel’s Iron Man series was shot over several weeks at the Port of Wilmington in Delaware. This port is a HUGE marine terminal handling over 400 cargo vessels annually. The gigantic rigs and metallic ambiance of the port complimented Tony Stark’s final battle well.
- WAR OF THE WORLDS
In the 2005 reimagining of “War of the Worlds,” Tom Cruise stars as dad Ray who spends the movie protecting his family from alien tripods invading the earth. The first time we see Ray, he is hard at work – moving shipping containers with a crane. Perhaps the finesse required for this job kept him quick on his feet and contributed to his family’s survival!
In James Cameron’s “Avatar,” humans have been on the planet Pandora making contact with the alien race, the Na’vi. They have been connecting with the Na’vi through their own Na’vi replicas called avatars. Upon research, I found that the tanks that contain the avatars are transported in the movie in shipping containers.
I will never get tired of the shocked expressions I see when people find out that I hustle shipping containers. However, when you really look into the pop culture that surrounds us, you can clearly see that these long, rectangular boxes have true star potential.
