Formula for success:
- Hard work
- Having a good attitude
- Always be willing to improve
Let’s not think about the ranking or the material success for one second, what would you then regard as a gain?
Matthew Allen, MMC agent, agreed to have a short interview about this topic. And it’s not a coincidence that he was ranked 3 in the top sales of the last year. Continually making progress, he is now on track to be number one and best fit to give us a few words on what success truly means.
As we all have noticed so far, MMC seemed to be there for people when they were in need and Matthew is pround not to make an exception. There was a time when his family needed him literally next to them, and there always comes a time when our family needs us. Although, it’s what Matthew made of his opportunity that helped him stand out. “I’m able to both work and be there for my family and from there…I just do what I do.” are the words that best describe how quick on the uptake Matthew is. “There you go!”, I’d say, but it’s not that simple…here comes Matthew again and tells me that the motivation you have defines what you will do! And then…you couldn’t agree more!
How was that for him? Well, at first, he admits, the family was his drive and then, as soon as he got used to his work, he found himself utterly thriving to do his best. He’s adding that the many possibilities this job has to offer made him always see and do the most important thing, thus learning how to focus on his target. <<There is no point where I say “OK, I’ve done enough”, there’s always “I can do more”.>>, this is how a well intent self-driven person sounds! Spend a few more minutes with Matthew and you’ll find out that part of his rising career is the family: “I wouldn’t be who I am if it wasn’t for her”, he says about his wife who also works for MMC…”it’s the family…It’s not just ME working, it’s what our FAMILY does”!
For Matthew, the word family comprises so much more than his blood relations, it represents the people he has “grown close to, loved and cared about” and the team he works hard with, the team he genuinely wants to try their best, “not because it benefits ME, but because it benefits THEM”. All this motivation stems from his own story, ispiring him to be his best version every day. “The road we have to walk is a terrible one and what makes it more tolerable are all the possibilities my job offers me.”
The question that stuck in Matthew’s head was “How am I gonna support my family?” and the fact that the opportunity arose was the sign for him to go forward with all he’s got. This is how MMC made the track a lot easier for Matthew and how he was able to cope with life so as to become one of their most successful agents. He is the proof that success is achieved without being selfseeking. Because, despite being competitive, Matthew knows the energy he puts into his work and sees the family as a priority, not the rat race we all seem to be so caught up in.
“I’m the second now in the company and it’s basically consistency, you have to commit that time and that energy…you have to be willing to trust yourself, trust in your abilities…I’m always growing and learning”. Saying these, Matthew claims that you always have something to learn from anyone and in this process, personality goes a long way! especially when you’re trying to build a relationship on a phone call. So, you got to be personable, enjoy talking to others and be easily talked to. Adding to this amazing baggage Matthew has, his motto is “I help people buy containers, I don’t sell them!” and this paraphrases the successful road he walks on!
